Our History
FUDEBIOL was founded in 1989 by committed residents of Quebradas who set out to protect the natural springs and forests that provide water to San Isidro de El General.
Today, more than three decades later, FUDEBIOL remains a key environmental pillar in Pérez Zeledón, safeguarding water, life, and knowledge for future generations.
Who We Are
La Fundación para el Desarrollo del Centro Biológico Las Quebradas (FUDEBIOL) is an organization nonprofit, founded on May 13, 1989 by dedicated members of the community of Quebradas de Pérez Zeledón, with the goal of to protect and conserve the natural resources of the Quebradas River watershed, a vital water source for the city of San Isidro de El General and surrounding communities.
FUDEBIOL was established under Costa Rica’s Foundations Law No. 5338 and declared a public interest organization in 1990, a recognition that highlights its environmental and social impact.
Since then, the foundation has grown into a leading reference in water conservation, environmental education, and sustainable development initiatives, encouraging active community involvement and scientific research.
